DOH Ilocos gives performance-based incentives to BHWs

SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) – The Department of Health-Ilocos Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 1) awarded performance based incentives to performing Provincial Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) Federations in a ceremony held in this city on Thursday.

The annual event aims to recognize the valuable contribution of barangay health workers as navigators in the implementation of the Universal Health Care through the awarding of performance based incentives to deserving Provincial BHWs Federations.

Gaylene de Sesto, nurse of the Local Health System Support Cluster of DOH Ilocos, said the winners were selected based on the set of criteria where the performance of each federation was evaluated by the regional office.

The Ilocos Sur Barangay Health Workers Federation receives their recognition as the Best Performing Provincial Barangay Health Workers Federation in a ceremony held in San Fernando City, La Union on November 3.

“Sa pamamagitan ng Department Order: No. 2022-0073 at 2021-0304 na nagsilbing guidelines ng mga validators sa pagpili ng mga BHW Federations na kung saan nakabase doon ang mga hahanaping documents for the points of consideration,” said De Sesto.

She added, “We need to provide technical assistance to the BHW and at the same time, giving incentives kasi kung titinsgnan mo is grabe ‘yong trabaho nila. Hindi natin namamalayan na ‘yong mga trabaho nila is talagang malaki ang impact sa health particularly ngayon.”

The DOH recognized four federations in the region and gave them cash prizes.

Ilocos Sur was the grand prize winner which received P175,000; followed by Pangasinan as 1st runner-up and got P150,000; Ilocos Norte was 2nd runner-up winning P100,000; and La Union was 3rd runner-up that received P75,000.

Meanwhile, Zenaida Pulido, president of the National Barangay Health Workers Federation, encouraged BHWs to continue empowering the community and responding and supporting the health needs of the citizens of the entire region.

“Sa mga kapwa ko barangay health workers, sipag at tiyaga lang, dahil malaki ang kinabukasan at malayo ang mararating ng Barangay Health Worker in God’s will, na maaprubahan ang aking mga hinaing at plataporma na para sa BHWs sa Kongreso at Senado,” said Pulido.

The annual awarding of performance-based incentive to BHWs, through their BHW federations, is in support of their continuing development in their provinces within the region. (JCR/AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
