Local officials beef up security in Naga City for bar exams

NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur (PIA)— This city government has ensured the safety of 465 examinees who are currently taking their bar examinations at the University of Nueva Caceres here thru the activation of the Incident Management Team (IMT) led by the Public Safety Office (PSO).

Last year, over 400 examinees also took the bar exams in the said school under the supervision of 150 proctors. UNC is one of the 14 local testing centers approved by the Supreme Court (SC) for the 2002 Bar Examinations, which was again held digitally this year, just like in 2021.

The arduous examinations for the Bar began on Nov. 9, Wednesday. Three additional non-consecutive exams were set on November 13, 16, and 20, completing the 2 Wednesdays and 2 Sundays schedule.

PSO Executive Director Renne Gumba held pre-coordination meetings with other law enforcement agencies prior to the Bar exams to ensure the safety of all bar examinees, proctors, Supreme Court personnel, and officials and to ensure that no untoward incident distracts those taking the examination.

The Naga City Police Office (NCPO) has sent 200 officers to various strategic locations. Some were assigned to manage traffic re-routing, while others stayed close to the testing facility.

The Highway Patrol Group (HPG), under the headship of PCapt. Miguelio Borromeo also assured that they have their eyes on the road, from the airport to the destinations where most Supreme Court officials are staying.

Road closure on selected roads

NCPO Deputy City Director for Administration Police Lt.Col. Errol Garchitorena said that road closures are necessary to ensure that there will be minimal disturbance from the noise of the vehicles to allow the concentration of examinees.

As per coordination with the Naga City IMT and PSO, road closures along the streets of General Luna; J. Hernadez- some portion in Barlin St. until the side of the Naga City Police Office area; Arana; P. Burgos, including the alleys of Talisay, Narra, and Bagong Lipunan – all in Brgy. Sta. Cruz is implemented from 12:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The said area will serve as a parking space for the bar examinees, Supreme Court personnel, and UNC employees.

NCPO opened  Bayawas St., which lies in between Brgys. Abella and Sta. Cruz, to serve as a fast lane in case of any emergencies. It is the street where UNC's Gate 2 is.

Motorists may also traverse the said lane if they live near the area or need to pass through the street to get to their destinations. (PIA5/Camarines Sur)
