'Dagyaw' town hall meetings in Western Visayas start

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - In a bid to provide a safe platform for communities to further engage with government, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Philippine Information Agency (PIA) with a Civil Society Organization (CSO) kicked off the Dagyaw 2022: Virtual Town Hall Meetings in Western Visayas on Tuesday, November 15.

“Ang pagsasagawa ng town hall meetings ay para mapalaganap ang partisipasyon ng mga miyembro ng ating komunidad sa pamamahala. Layunin din nito na mabigyan ng ligtas na plataporma ng mga miyembro ng komunidad na mapaabot ang mga problema at isyu na hinaharap ng iba’t-ibang sector,” said DILG 6 Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero in his opening message.

This year, the two-episode virtual townhall meetings are anchored on the theme "Fostering Multi-Sectoral Convergence through Social Accountability”  highlighting the platforms of the new administration. These will also be carried out in partnership with Western Visayas Network of NGOs.

The Dagyaw's first episode focused on the rising prices of commodities in the region and the strategies employed in addressing the problem.

Featured resource persons were Statistician II Cherry Ann Gallego of the

Philippine Statistics Authority 6 and Assistant Regional Director Cynthia Lumagpao of National Economic and Development Authority 6.

The region's Dagyaw team has also invited panelists from different sectors and agencies to shed light and provide inputs on some issues and concerns.

Ingeniero invited the public to participate in the discussions from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. The next episode will be on Friday, November 18.

The episodes will be streamed via the facebook pages of DILG Region 6 Western Visayas and Philippine Information Agency Region VI and all the FB pages of PIA 6 provincial offices. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
