BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - Loom weavers in barangay Runruno in Quezon town recently received skills training from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The 15 participants were members of the ABEL Runruno Indigenous Peoples Organization (ABEL-RIPO) who were taught on the basics of handloom weaving of various cultural and traditional attire of the Kalanguya, Kankana-ey, Ibaloi, Tuwali, and Ayangan tribes.
DOST Provincial Director Jonathan Nuestro said the trainers came from their agency’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) in order to increase the knowledge and skills of the ABEL-RIPO members using the equipments of the DTI.
DTI Provincial Director Marietta Salviejo assured the participants that their outputs will be exhibited in the upcoming Trade Fair of FCF Minerals Corporation next month including the products of all assisted groups and organizations through the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) of the mine firm based in barangay Runruno in Quezon town.
The week-long training of the ABEL-RIPO loom weavers was funded by the FCF Minerals Corporation through the SDMP.
