DAR 6 grants support to Neg. Occ. town organic farmers

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) 6 recently provided a P360,000-worth of assistance among the farmer beneficiaries in Barangay San Pablo, Manapla, Negros Occidental to develop their organic vegetable farm.

Identified as beneficiary, the Hda. Rita Balud Farmers Association (HARBFA) was given vegetable seeds, organic fertilizer, nursery

supplies, vermi-worms, farm equipment, and a water system reservoir which includes construction materials, electric pump, other accessories, and some labor services.

According to DAR Western Visayas regional director lawyer Sheila Enciso, the scheme was implemented under the DAR’s Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support (CRFPS) project.

“The HARBFA members have attended skills training to improve their way of farming, develop their management skills, market their products effectively, and become more resilient in dealing with natural calamities,” noted Enciso.

Meanwhile, Lucrecia Taberna, assistant regional director of DAR 6, emphasized that the project is just the start of the agency’s assistance to organic farmers with the hope to augment their livelihood and eventually expand their vegetable enterprises.

Currently, HARBFA is managing a total agricultural area of 75.0082 hectares.

It could be noted that CRFPS aims to help the agrarian reform beneficiaries' organizations in the area whose products were previously devastated by natural calamities through the establishment of an organic vegetable farm within a 6,900 square-meter lot owned by the cooperative.
