LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, (PIA) - The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) formally turned over a Multi-Purpose Evacuation Center (MPEC) to Barangay Pangapisan in Lingayen town on Friday.
The inauguration of the P50 million two-storey emergency building, equipped with advanced and modern facilities such as kitchen and storage areas, toilet and shower rooms for male and female, and lactating rooms for nursing mothers, was a welcome development for thousands of families in the said municipality.
The ceremony was attended by PAGCOR officials to include Vice President Ramon Stephen Villaflor, and Assistant Vice Presidents Carmelita Valdez and Eric Balcos.
The local government unit of Lingayen welcomed the establishment of the building under the leadership of Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, Vice Mayor Mac Dexter Malicdem, and the entire Sangguniang Bayan.
According to Mayor Bataoil, the town of Lingayen is fortunate to be among the areas that have been helped by PAGCOR.
"I have seen even the most remote places in the country, which your agency really supported. We appreciate this kind gesture of yours to help our people especially the vulnerable ones," added the mayor.
Rev. Fr. Emil Soriano led the blessing of the building.
The barangay chiefs were also in full force with their barangay rescue vehicles to show support and solidarity to the occasion.
The PAGCOR building is a great help for disaster-prone barangays to serve as shelter during strong typhoons and floods. (JCR/AMB/RPM, PIA Pangasinan)
