Excited i-Benguets celebrate Adivay 2022

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet  (PIA) -- Thousands flocked  to the Benguet Sports Complex on Wednesday (November 23) to join   in the  celebration of the 122nd Benguet Foundation anniversary thru the Adivay Festival.


A civic parade from the Provincial Capitol to the Benguet Sports Complex kicked off the Benguet Day events led by Benguet top officials Congressman Eric Go Yap, Governor Melchor Diclas, and Vice Governor Ericson Felipe with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members. They were joined by Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

 

 The municipal government officials with their respective delegation, national line agencies, law enforcement agencies, the academe, private and business sectors as well as organizations and groups took part in the parade. 


Highlight of the celebration was the grand canao where more than 50 pigs and cattle were butchered to feed the thousands of people in attendance. As a customary activity before the butchering,   men from the different municipalities participated in the traditional “depap” or pig catching, followed by the “tayao” dance by the provincial officials and the “owik” rituals led by the native priests or elders or the mambunong.

According to the reports from the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, at least 20,000 people flocked to the sports complex during the Benguet Day events.


 “We saw the excitement from the faces of the people of Benguet even of the visitors who attended the Adivay Festival for the first time after the pandemic,” Diclas noted.


“The happiness of the people, both the young and old, showed that they have missed this kind of gathering and they really appreciate and are excited to have again experienced the Adivay thru the month-long activities,” he added.

For his part, Felipe expressed gladness for the successful staging of the Adivay this year which was participated by officials and guests from the nearby city of Baguio and other Cordillera provinces.


“We are happy to have observed the Adivay with the provincial officials with contingents from the 13 municipalities and the city of Baguio. This showcased the unity among us i-Benguets with our neighboring communities,” Felipe said.


In his message, Yap encouraged the continuing unity among the officials and the people of Benguet for the progress and development of the province.

Yap said that the unity among the people of Benguet will ensure the development of the province particularly on tourism, infrastructure, agriculture and other industries.


 “Kung sasamahan ninyo kami, magtutulong-tulong tayo, mas malayo pa ang maabot natin, sisikapin naming gawin and aming makakaya para gumanda ang ating buhay, makapagbigay ng tulong sa mga taong akala nila nakalimutanna. Mag tutulong-tulong tayo at dagdagan pa natin ang ating pasensya. At lahat iyan ay makakamit natin basta sama-sama,” Yap said.


 She assured her support for the improvement and further development of the agriculture sector in the province with her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as the Agriculture Secretary.


“Iti selebrasyon yo iti Adivay wenno piesta, isabuhay natin and mga kultura, tradisyon at pagkakaibigan para sa ikauunlad ng ating mahal na Inang Bayan,” the Senator said.


 “Bilang Super Ate ng Pangulo, umasa kayo na kukulitin ko and ading ko na si Pangulong Bongbong na gawin ang lahat ng para anupang mga mahal nating mamamayan sa Benguet ay maging masigla muli ang kabuhayan at kalakalan ng mga gulay at iba pang produkto dahil isu ti Agriculture Secretary,” she added.
