DOST undergraduate scholarship application ends Dec. 2

VIGAN CITY (PIA) — The application for the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) undergraduate scholarship will end Friday, December 2.

Laurine Sales, Project Assistant II of the DOST-Ilocos Sur, reminded interested applicants of the deadline for applications during the Ammuentayo radio program on Saturday.

The undergraduate scholarship is for the incoming grade 12 students, for the academic year 2023, who have the intention of pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses in college.

All students belonging to the STEM strand are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

It is also open for non-STEM strand students who are part of the top 5 percent of their graduating class.

The requirements are Certificate of Good Moral Character, Principal’s Certification, DOST-SEI Scholarship Examination/Award, Birth Certificate, and a Certified Copy of Permanent Student Record (Form 137) or Report Card (Form 138) for Grades 9, 10 and 11, among others.

All S&T undergraduate scholars will enjoy a P7,000 monthly stipend; premium insurance; P10,000 for learning materials and/or connectivity allowance; P1,000 clothing allowance; and P10,000 thesis allowance.

Those who will enroll in private Higher Education Institutions will be provided P40,000 for tuition and other school fees.

Sales said: “There are downloadable forms on our website, https://www.science- scholarships.ph/. They can print the forms or they can visit our office.”

She mentioned there are also primers available for the applicants to download from the website, or at their office.

In Ilocos Sur, the qualification exam is scheduled on March 11 to 12 at the University of Northern Philippines.

“Once they are qualified, they will be informed through the email they provided on their application. Which is why they need to be keen on providing their details, it could also lead the system to deny their applications if it detects multiple inputs,” she said.

The undergraduate scholarship seeks to stimulate and encourage talented Filipino youth to pursue productive careers in science and technology.

All interested students may visit the official pages of the DOST for further information. (JCR/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
