MANILA, (PIA) -- President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will lead on Wednesday, Nov. 30, the nationwide commemoration of the 159th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio at the hero's national shrine in historic Caloocan City.

The President will lead the flag raising and wreath-laying ceremonies in "Monumento" that will revisit and honor the past and Bonifacio, the most proletarian of all Filipino heroes.

This year’s celebration, led by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), carries the theme: Kabayanihan at Pagtindig sa Makabagong Panahon (Courage and Reputation in the Modern Age).

Pres. Marcos is also set to deliver a speech that will impart a stronger sense of nationhood to present and future generations of Filipinos, inspired by Bonifacio’s patriotism, bravery, and sense of camaraderie.

The Chief Executive will be joined by NHCP Chairperson Rene Escalante, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan and Caloocan City First District Representative Oscar Malapitan, among others.

Local government units will also conduct simultaneous simple commemorative rites at the Andres Bonifacio Shrine in Tutuban, Manila, Spirit of Pinaglabanan Shrine in San Juan City, Bonifacio Monument at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City, Bonifacio Monument in Cloverleaf, Quezon City, and Maragondon Trial Museum in Maragondon, Cavite.

To recall, Act No. 2946 enacted by the Philippine Congress in Feb. 6, 1921 declared November 30 of every year to be the day of commemoration of the birth of Andres Bonifacio.

Last year's celebration of Bonifacio Day was made more special with the newly restored El Deposito Underground Reservoir and the new diorama exhibit at the Museo ng Katipunan in San Juan City, which showcases the historical Battle of San Juan del Monte.
