CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga(PIA)--The province joined the nationwide kick-off of the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW).
The campaign from November 25 to December 12 carries the theme “UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines”.
The participants used orange shirts for optimism and energy with high hope of ending violence against women in the province.
Rosemaritez A. Oyawon, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer explained the orange color would attract attention and awareness in support to the campaign.
Part of the kick-off program were lectures on Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act, Gender Sensitivity, Gender and Sex and other advocacies.
Participants from the various municipalities were oriented on the context of violence against women that connotes not only physical but verbal abuse as well.
Gov. James S. Edduba reiterated the Kalinga core values on “paniyaw”, ” ngilin” and “bain” which he said cover respect, care and protection of women.
Edduba said the provincial government in partnership with concerned agencies has a program to provide assistance to victims of VAW. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
