PRO6 up for ‘Ligtas Paskuhan’ security measures

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 bears “Implan Ligtas Paskuhan 2022” security preparation to ensure the health, safety, and security of the public during the yuletide season.

During the recent fourth quarter meeting of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) 6, PRO 6 Regional Operations Division chief Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero discussed with the member agencies the enhanced anti-criminality measures and public safety services, emphasizing the close collaboration with other government agencies, local government units (LGUs), and stakeholders.

Police Brigadier General Leo M. Francisco, PRO-6 regional director and Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) 6 vice chairperson, presides the council's fourth quarter meeting at Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City.

“What we are aiming and looking forward to having is zero major incidents in the celebration of the yuletide season,” Gorero said.

The focused activities and programs under the said measure include the implementation of enhanced managing police operations (E-MPO) to deter the commission of crimes, activation of community defense systems, and undertaking active security patrol.

Also, the coordination with LGUs is highlighted for the designation of firecracker and pyrotechnic zones in collaboration with the Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Several assistance hubs will also be established along major thoroughfares and places of convergence like churches, ports, terminals, malls, markets, and tourist destinations, among others. This will be done in partnership with other government agencies, LGUs, and advocacy groups.

The collaboration will also intensify the conduct of information campaigns for public safety awareness about injuries, casualties, and destruction of property caused by firecrackers and fire incidents.

Apart from these, Gorero also pointed out the importance of legislative measures that would regulate, if not ban, the use of firecrackers in municipalities and cities in the region.

Per PRO-6 data, to date, there are 15 municipalities and one highly urbanized city in Western Visayas with local ordinances banning firecrackers.

These are the towns of Ibajay, Makato, Malinao, Kalibo, and Malay in Aklan; Culasi, Hamtic, Sebaste, Sibalom, Tibiao, and Tobias Fornier in Antique, San Lorenzo town in Guimaras; Don Salvador Benedicto, Pulupandan, and Manapla in Negros Occ.; and Iloilo City.

Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 Regional Operations Division chief, presents to the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) 6 member agencies the "Implan Ligtas Paskuhan" initiative for the upcoming holidays.

With this, Gorero calls on the remaining LGUs in the region to follow the same to help the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP), and BFP in eliminating the incidents.

“Kasi kung wala nang firecrackers because of these existing ordinances, sino pa kaya ang magpapaputok?” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Ligtas Paskuhan security deployment will cover the period of December 16, 2022 to January 6, 2023 with more than 2,700 PNP personnel and force multipliers to be deployed across the region. (JBG/FRG/PIA6)
