The kalesa installed on the third level of the tree mimics that of the Vigan kalesa as it circles the tree.
Lawyer Glendale Benzon, Vigan City councilor, explained the inspiration behind this year’s Christmas Tree.
She said that illuminating the holiday celebration, the Christmas Tree showcases iconic details of the Vigan ancestral house, the kalesa, Abel Iloko and damili that are inviting attractions that remind everyone of the beauty of the city.
“This year, the city government of Vigan, through the Vigan Production Center, together with the City Engineering Office, General Services Office, and the City Events Promotions Office created a masterpiece,” Councilor Benzon said.
Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson, Jr. said, “This is an annual event that not only denotes the lighting of the Christmas Tree as it is also very symbolic.”
He further said, “It marks the official start of our celebration of Christmas, one that is happy. Likewise, we are praying that our future in the coming year is better than the previous one.”
Moreover, the official ceremony culminated with a fireworks display witnessed by over a hundred Vigan residents, the city officials and employees, and barangay officials.
Meanwhile, the city government of Vigan also installed Christmas decorations in the City Hall, in Plaza Burgos, and in Calle Crisologo. (JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
