LEGAZPI CITY, Albay (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) commenced the 2022 Bicol Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) with the theme,''Agham at teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan,'' at the Pepperland Hotel, Legazpi City, Albay on December 5 to 6, 2022.
Showcasing different innovative technologies, inventions, and products of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME's) of DOST 5 local scholars, inventors and other stakeholders.
‘’I am inviting all of the Bicolanos to attend and see for yourself the activities and exhibits that we have here in Pepperland Albay in connection with our Bicol Regional science and technology week,’’ DOST V Regional Director Mr. Rommel R. Serrano stated.

Serrano (in grey suit) and other stakeholders opens the 2022 Bicol Regional Science and technology week to the public by performing the ceremonial cutting of ribbon.(PIA5/Albay)
Visitors will witness the PAGASA augmented reality terrain or flood simulator, SUMOBOTS created by students, booths of Masbate, Cam Sur, Cam Norte, Catanduanes, Masbate, Albay and Sorsogon provincial science and technology offices, MSME products and many more.
‘’Those different projects exhibited today reveals that science addresses our daily problems, that is why we are supporting our local inventors and their innovations,’’ DOST Undersecretary for regional operations, Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang cited.
Mabborang emphazised that local innovators and inventors from different Local Government Unit’s should showcase their skills and talent not only locally but also internationally.
''We should not stop to make our products to be innovative and the planning should be world-class,'' Mabborang stated during the press conference.
He also encouraged them by stating that, they should not underestimate themselves.
''Our products are world-class, through solidarity...we are an exceptional country and individual, we can do it,'' Mabborang stated.
ON DISPLAY. Various innovative projects, inventions and products are exhibited made by DOST partners from different provinces in Bicol Region showcasing the advancement of technology and its usage that will be beneficial to the public. (PIA5/Albay)
During the presscon different programs were also discussed.
What are the programs offered?
According to DOST such programs are, Innovations for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD PH) program for Overseas Filipino Workers.
Innovation, Science and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology (iSTART) Based Development program which aims accelerate regional growth through science, innovations and technology.
Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program which focuses on health and nutrition, water and sanitation, public safety, basic education and literacy and livelihood development.
To keep up with the developments DOST also had Science for Change Program (S4CP) which aims to accelerate the Science, Technology, and Innovation (ST&I) in the country and many more programs.
Serrano emphasized that by visiting the event, DOST 5 is willing to render their services, support and help needed by the stakeholders in science and technological aspect.
Highlighting also the advancement of technologies that were developed, recognized and awarded by DOST which helps the stakeholders in enhancing their products and idea's.
‘’The program and projects of DOST were offered to all stakeholders, MSME’s, students, business sector or even academic sector,’’ Serrano stated. (PIA5/Albay)
