4K Candon City rice farmers receive cash aid from DA

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — Some 4,238 rice farmers in Candon City, Ilocos Sur received P5,000 each recently during the distribution of financial assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA).
 
Expressing his gratitude to the DA and the local government, Jonathan Quiyam, president of Bugnay Farmers Association in the city said, “Dakkel nga tulong kadagiti padami nga mannalon, para kadagiti kasla kaniami nga farmers nga agkasapulan ti pangsupusop dagiti magasto (This is a big help to me and my fellow farmers who are in need of additional cash to sustain our livelihood).”
 
Deputy Speaker and Second District Representative Kristine Singson-Meehan and Candon City Mayor Ericson Singson distributed the financial assistance along with the staff of the DA.

In her message, the lady solon thanked the people behind the program.
 


“Our heartfelt gratitude to my district staff; Candon City government headed by Mayor Eric Singson; Jomar Dayap, the Supervising Agriculturist of DA-Regional Field Office 1; Agriculturist II Joseph Tadeo; USSC Manager Richard Carillo; and City Agriculture Officer Amado Corpuz, thank you for this initiative,” Singson-Meehan said.
 


She also mentioned her gratitude to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., also the agriculture secretary, for continuously supporting the farmer constituents in the second district of Ilocos Sur.

The project was funded under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA) of the DA.
 
Meanwhile, the tobacco farmers in the city also recently received farm inputs from the DA, the provincial government and the city government.
 
They were given basal fertilizer, pesticides, insecticide, and curing bags.
 
Moreover, the distribution of the fuel subsidy of 170 liters is ongoing. (JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
