Sigay town in Ilocos Sur reigns victor in parade of lights

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — The town of Sigay in the Second District of Ilocos Sur claimed the victory at the 2022 Feria De Candon Electrical Float Parade Competition.
 
As the champion, the local government unit (LGU) of Sigay took home P250,000 cash prize.
 
They emerged on top among the 21 towns that lit up the streets of Candon City during the parade on Saturday night, December 10.
 
Interpreting this year’s theme, Disney, the towns recreated the themes of cherished movies and cartoons.
 
LGU-Sigay adorned their electrical float with the visuals of the movie “The Little Mermaid”.

Mayor Carlo Crisanto Peredo said, "Inspired by the life of Ariel, the bright, spirited and headstrong little mermaid with a strong passion for adventure and exploration, this magnificent float all the way from Sigay, Ilocos Sur is crafted with love and passion."
 
He further explained that the float ldepicts the persistence of Sigay town to come upon its vision, blunt the challenges and pursue the race. 
 
Strong-willed and self-reliant as Ariel is, she portrays empowered and resilient Sigayanos, and dedicated leaders, all working in synergy to live up to its battle cry – Sinnaranay Sigay.
 
They decorated the electric float with underwater creatures such as various fishes, turtles, stingray, jellyfish, dolphin, seahorse, and one of the adored characters in the movie, Sebastian, a crab.

They also included aquatic plants and corals found deep in the sea.
 
According to Balligi Quitor, tourism officer of the town, it took three weeks for over 10 people to finish their winning entry.
 
Meanwhile, San Esteban town won as 1st runner up of the said competition and received P200,000, while the 2nd runner up, the town of Santiago got P150,000.
 
Santa Lucia, the 3rd runner up, took home P100,000, and Lidlidda town won P50,000 as the 4th runner up.
 
Moreover, all participants received consolation prizes of P25,000. (JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
