Councilor Al-ag eyes the establishment of recreational trails in Davao City

DAVAO CITY - City Councilor Bernard Al-ag is eyeing the establishment of institutionalized trails for Dabawenyos who are into leisure hiking.

“I am now in talks with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in how we can institutionalize these trails na ma-aenjoy sa atong mga Dabawenyos (for Dabawenyos to enjoy),” says Councilor Al-ag during his guesting at the One Davao presser.

The Councilor said Davao City has many hiking trails, particularly in Toril.

Naa ta vipers peak, naa pud tay trail sa Eden ug didto sa Tagurano , daghan ta trails diri sa siyudad (We have vipers peak, we also have a trail in Eden and also in Tagurano we have many trails in the city),” the Councilor said.

Al-ag, an avid weekend hiker with his family said he has a hiking group called the Happy Family Hikers. He says they would hike every Sunday along with several hikers and their families.

“Advocate ta sa healthy and active lifestyle together with the family (we are advocates of a healthy and active lifestyle together with the family),” Al-ag says of his advocacy of institutionalizing these trails.

One of the popular hiking trails in Davao City is the Vipers Peak in Barangay Bato, Toril. It has gained popularity among Dabawenyos as it is near the city and also its uncomplicated trails are ideal for family hiking. You will also be rewarded by panoramic vistas particularly along the scenic grassland section of the trail. A coffee shop and mini-store at the entry point of the trail sells refreshments and food.

Another well-visited hiking trail is in Tagurano, also in Toril district. A 2-3 hour mostly uphill trek along farms and woodlands will lead to spectacular views. Popular stops in the Tagurano trail include Angel’s View, Battlefield and Anagon Peak. (PIA/RG Alama)
