TRECE MARTIRES, Cavite (PIA) – Four Caviteño candidates filed their Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) last Monday and Tuesday, December 5 & 6, 2022 for the 7th Congressional District of Cavite per COMELEC Resolution 10848.
This is to fill up the vacated seat of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla in a “special election” slated on February 25, 2023.
COMELEC Spokesman Rex Laudiangco revealed that the candidates running for the said position are: Jose Angelito Domingo Aguinaldo (Independent); Melencio Loyola De Sagun, Jr. (Independent); Michael Angelo Bautista Santos (Independent); and Crispin Diego Diaz Remulla (National Unity Party).
“This is on account of the appointment and assumption to office of former Representative Jesus Crispin C. Remulla as Secretary of Justice, subsequent to his election thereto in the recently concluded May 9, 2022, National and Local Elections,” stated Laudiangco.
The COMELEC official said that all registered voters from the municipalities of Amadeo, Indang, and Tanza, and the City of Trece Martires will be participating in this electoral exercise. The voting, counting, and canvassing of the votes will be be done with the use of the automated elections system, the Vote-Counting Machine (VCM), and the Consolidation and Canvassing System (CCS).
Meanwhile, the voters’ registration in the 7th District of Cavite is suspended from November 25, 2022 until February 24, 2023 while the official campaign period will start on January 26, 2023 until February 23, 2023. (RBF/PIA-Cavite with reports from COMELEC)
