Region 1 generally peaceful this 2022, says PNP

SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) -- The Ilocos Region is generally peaceful this 2022, says the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) and the Philippine Army (PA).

On peace and order situation, 8,003 crime incidents were logged in Region 1 from Jan.1 to Dec.12, 2022 which is 1,529 lower compared to the 9,532 crimes recorded in the same period last year, according to PLtCol Froilan Lopez of PRO-1.

Rape has the highest number of cases among the index crimes, and frustrated homicide tops the non-index crimes, while the Anti-Gambling Law is the most violated special law in the region.

Crime clearance efficiency in the Ilocos is at 99 percent while the crime solution efficiency is at 82 percent.

“This year, we have noted a significant decrease in the number of crime incidents in Region 1 and we can attribute this to the awareness of the public on our existing laws being cascaded through the Kasimbayanan activities and to other various crime prevention efforts undertaken,” Lopez said.

On the other hand, Col. Edwin Rivera of the 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army said, there are no monitored activities of the members of communist-terrorist groups within their traditional areas in Region 1.

Earlier this year, the Ilocos was declared under the state of stable internal peace and security by the Regional Task Force to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) after successfully dismantling the remaining armed groups.

Rivera affirms that the PA will remain steadfast on maintaining the generally peaceful status of the region relative to insurgency.

“It is more challenging to retain than to attain the said status, so we will need to further strengthen our collaboration and cooperation among the regional line agencies, intelligence communities, and other partner sectors,” Rivera stated. (JCR/MJTAB/CGC, PIA Region 1)
