BHW, BNS in Antique receive P12k incentive, other gifts

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- Barangay Health Workers (BHW) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) here each received P12,000 in incentives and other Christmas gifts from the provincial government during the 2022 Volunteer Community Health Workers’ Summit held at the Binirayan Sports Complex, December 12.

Organized by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC), the summit intended to acknowledge and emphasize the important role of volunteer community health workers in the realization of the goals and aspirations towards a #HealthyAntique.

In a message, Gov. Rhodora Cadiao expressed her gratitude to all BHW and BNS whom she said are instrumental in the implementation of public health programs and services, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic, the dengue outbreak, and the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm "Paeng."

Cadiao added that she bears witness to the dedication and hard work of the health workers in the name of service to the Antiqueños, as such, the efforts of the provincial government to provide them with protection against undue termination and a higher annual cash incentive by virtue of Provincial Ordinance No. 2019-174.

She also hopes for her successor and the next set of provincial officials to give the same if not more attention to the BHW and BNS.

For her part, Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member and Committee on Health, Sanitation, and Social Services chair Dr. Mayella Mae Ladislao said that volunteer health workers in the barangays serve as the government's partners at the grassroots level, without whom the delivery of services will be deemed unattainable.

She noted that their legislation in the provincial council remains as a piece of document until supported and realized by the health workers.

At least 1,707 volunteer community health workers from all 18 municipalities of Antique attended the summit and received cash incentives, t-shirts, umbrellas, and meal packs.

Alita Panganiban who serves as a BHW in Brgy. Lindero, Libertad town for 33 years now is thankful to receive her incentive, saying that the amount will be used for minor home renovations and for the Holiday celebration.

Also present at the event are Vice Governor and Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Presiding Officer Edgar Denosta and several SP members.

Cadiao requested the presence of the officials at the event to give honor and appreciation and to personally deliver the incentives and gifts to the volunteer community health workers. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
