Newly-renovated Pampanga provincial hospital opens

GUAGUA, Pampanga (PIA) -- The provincial government inaugurated the newly-renovated main building of Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Hospital (DPMMH) to boost its medical and health services for Kapampangans.

DPMMH Chief of Hospital Fleur Zapanta said the refurbished main building now houses the operating room and delivery room complex; emergency room; tertiary laboratory; 2D-echo, X-ray and ultrasound rooms.

“It also houses the pharmacy, cashier, admitting section, hospital information system management office, chapels and air-conditioned rooms for post-operations patients,” Zapanta said.

Meanwhile, the provincial government’s molecular laboratory that conducts COVID-19 tests operates in another building of the said hospital.

During the inauguration, Governor Dennis Pineda thanked Vice Governor Lilia Pineda and the provincial board members for approving health and medical projects and services including the corresponding budgets for these.

“We are continuously improving our provincial hospital, as well as our ten district hospitals in order to deliver better and more quality medical and health services to our indigent constituents,” Pineda said.

Aside from this, the governor added that the DPMMH will also soon have its own dialysis center to be constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways with funds coming from the Anak Kalusugan partylist.

Meanwhile, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation also gave funds for the purchase of 20 dialysis machines at the DPMMH and a CT-Scan at the Romana Pangan District Hospital.

For her part, Vice Governor Pineda said the renovation of DPMMH will be a big boost to the Alagang Nanay Preventive Health Care program of the provincial government, especially in terms of free medical checkups, laboratory tests, medicines and support services for the early detection and treatment of diseases.

“I am happy because we will have an increase in terms of bed capacity. The opening of our hospital [DPMMH] will really help us in our preventive health care," Pineda said.

Health Undersecretary Maria Francia Laxamana also lauded the efforts of the provincial government and vowed to fully support its health care programs and services.

As a Level 1 hospital, Zapanta said the DPMMH operates an emergency room, laboratory, pharmacy, and X-ray and ultrasound services on a 24-hour basis. It also provides CT-Scan and animal bite treatment five times a week. Its outpatient units in pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and surgery render services six times weekly.

Facilities including the expertise and dedication of 276 medical, nursing, ancillary and administrative personnel make for high-quality health care at the DPMMH.

With this, the governor assured that no indigent Kapampangans will be left unattended by doctors nor their medical needs not catered in the provincial and district hospitals in Pampanga.

“I ask all our medical practitioners and service providers to be prompt and courteous in dealing with patients because they need your help. That's the dream that Vice Governor Nanay and the provincial board members are helping to make come true,” he said. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
