Shearline threatens Central and Southern Luzon

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) - The Low Pressure Area (LPA) in the Mindanao area has dissolved but another weather system has re-emerged.

The Shearline that DOST Pagasa forecasted yesterday has been formed and may affect the areas of Mimaropa, Calabarzon and also Cagayan, Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said.

An area where both hot and cold air meet, a Shearline may bring moderate to heavy and at times intense rains on Central and Southern Luzon.

Torres urged residents in these area to take precautions and coordinate with their local disaster risk disaster reduction offices.

Based on the NDRRMC Sitrep No. 7, rains from the previous Shearline flooded Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Regions 6,7,8,9,10, 11 and BARMM covering 388 areas.

Floodwaters in 345 areas has subsided but there are 33 others where floodwaters are still receding and 10 more remained in high waters.

This previous Shearline rainfall has caused landslides in 22 areas.

Four hundred forty six thousand and four hundred eighty five (486,485) persons were affected by the impact of the Shearline.

Four thousand sixty-eight (4,068) houses sustained damages; out of this number, 746 were totally wrecked.

As for casualties, seven dead, two injured and three missing were confirmed.

On the Northern Luzon, the Northeast Monsoon will continue to prevail brings cloudy skies with rains over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of the Cagayan Valley.
