Eagle structure to boost  tourism in Barlig

BARLIG, Mountain Province(PIA) --In continuing efforts to boost eco-tourism in the province, the provincial government pushed for the   completion of the  eagle structure  at the Mauwuy, Lias-Kadaclan Road in this town.

Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. and Barlig Mayor Clark C. Ngaya led last December 21 the inauguration   of the newly improved eagle structure  which is  symbolic of the Philippine Eagle found in the area. It  was blessed by Rev. Fr. Andrew Claver.

Lacwasan emphasized that tourism is one of the priorities  of the current administration  since it has a huge potential in the economic development of the province.

“We, your officials, believe that tourism is a major economic driver so that if it is maintained or continues to expand, it will benefit the province as a whole. That is why, even with our meager budget, we continued to improve the eagle structure in Barlig because the natural beauty of the place has been attracting tourists and its virgin forests was reported to be the home of the Philippine Eagle. With the improvement of the structure, we believe that it will draw more tourists to the place,” Lacwasan  said.

He also reminded that as tourism is being boosted, everyone must also help in the protection of the environment.

“I have met people saying that Mountain Province is a great tourist destination. We should therefore all strive to promote our place like Barlig. Barlig is very beautiful, it is full of natural tourist spots and that is why we should preserve it,” the governor said.

Ngaya also expressed his gratitude to the provincial government for the realization of the project. He said   the structure is a Christmas gift to the people of Barlig and that the structure is not complete without its blessing.

Provincial Tourism Officer Roger Sacyaten shared the story how the symbolic structure depicts the resilient environmental protection and preservation of Barlig’s rainforest which is a home to the endemic monkey-eating eagle  called locally as “lawi” .

Sacyaten said that the structure was constructed to represent the two eagles which were rescued by two former officials of Barlig. The eagles were then released in March 2005 after proper coordination with concerned agencies.

The inauguration was witnessed by officials of the provincial government, local government   of Barlig, members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Philippines-Mountain Province Chapter, local media and the community members.(JDP/VJLT-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
