Antique’s Provincial Product Accounts up for use

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) - - The Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) of the Province of Antique is already available for use after the compilation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and dissemination of results done by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recently.

PSA 6 Chief Statistical Specialist Marlene Y. Alviar during the dissemination forum, emphasized the importance of PPA as an essential tool in planning and policy formulation at the sub-national level.

She said that coming up with PPA marks another milestone for the province to have gathered the important indicators crucial to the formulation of data-driven policies and programs toward economic growth.

PSA Antique Chief Statistical Specialist Randy Tacogdoy presented the highlights of the results of the PPAs of Antique indicating that the main drivers of growth for the province are mining and quarrying at 2.9 percent and agriculture, forestry and fishing at 1.5 percent.

The Antique’s economy was valued at P65 billion in 2021 with a growth rate of 7 percent in 2020-2021.

Tacogdoy also noted the fastest-growing industries in the province which are accommodation and food service at 17 percent growth rate, human health and social work at 11.9 percent and construction at 10.4 percent.

Antique’s per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2021 is P105,154 while the regional per capita is P109,664 for the same year.

It was emphasized during the dissemination forum that PPA initiative enables the compilation of the GDP of the provinces and Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), consistent with the GDP at the national and regional levels.

The PPA was compiled consistently with the framework of the System of National Accounts, an international standard system of national accounts. (JBG/PSM/PIA-Antique)
