7 tribes to vie for Dinagyang ILOmination

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Seven tribes representing the seven districts of metro Iloilo will compete in the very first Dinagyang ILOmination contest set on January 21, 2023.

According to the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI), the Dinagyang lead organizer, these tribes will render night performances using illuminated and colorful costumes.

“The rationale behind that is that after we have experienced the darkness, here comes the light,” IFFI executive director Joyce Ann Clavecillas said in an interview.

Clavecillas also cited the value of gratitude and blessings amidst the challenges brought by the pandemic

Apart from the tribes' lighted performances, spectators will also witness the parade of bright gigantic floats.

Three judging areas were designated along the city’s new business districts, namely, Atria Park, SM City Iloilo, and Iloilo Business Park Megaworld.

The tribes included the City Proper, Lapuz, La Paz, Molo, Jaro, Mandurriao and Arevalo.

To recall, these Dinagyang tribes went head-to-head in a sneak peak of their

performance during the Dinagyang 2023 ILOmination Showdown at the Megaworld Transport Hub last December 23.

In a separate media statement, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed that the live comeback of Dinagyang will be bigger, bolder, and brighter this year.

“After two years of not holding a face-to-face celebration, everyone is excited for the comeback of the grandest festival in the country,” Mayor Treñas said.

For those interested, Dinagyang ILOmination tickets can be purchased at Seda Hotel, Richmonde Hotel, and Hotel del Rio. (JBG/LML/PIA-Iloilo)
