The NTC, which is an attached agency of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), will also tap the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and local government units for the offsite registration.
“Hulat lang sila kay from time to time maga-issue man ang NTC kaupod sang mga Telcos sang mga notices agud ma-guide ang mga pumuluyo sang gina-obra subong nga simcard registration (Just wait as from time to time the NTC and TeCos issue notices that guide people in relation to the sim card registration),” Tan stressed.
The public were also reminded to find ways to register their sim cards in their respective TelCos within the 180-day period from the effectivity of the Republic Act No. 11934 or an Act Requiring the Registration of Subscriber Identity Module.
Under the law, the DICT may extend the registration for a period of 120 days, however, failure to register within the timeframe will result in the deactivation of the sim.
To recall, the enactment of the sim registration law aims to combat criminal actions done through the use of sim cards.
“That’s why kailangan naton nga register ang mga sim cards para at least liable kun sin-o man nga tawo ang magamit sang iya sim card sa lain nga pamaagi (This is why we need to register our sim cards so that a person is liable whenever he uses the sim card in illegal activities),” Tan emphasized.
