PVAO conducts creative painting contest for March 18 V-Day celebration

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - Learners from Grade 7,8,9 and 10 enrolled in any public and private schools recognized by the Department of Education in this city can participate in the Creative Painting Contest organized by the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office.

This will form part of the activities for the 78th  Victory Day celebration on the Liberation of Panay, Romblon and Guimaras Islands.

Held in partnership with the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) Iloilo Branch and Department of Education 6, the contest aims to increase awareness of historical places in Panay during World War II where veteran heroes fought and sacrificed their lives.

This also intends to highlight the reasons why "we experience and enjoy freedom up to this day."

Specifically, the entries should depict the life, works and heroism of General Macario Peralta and the Free Panay Guerilla Forces, their contributions during the Battle in Balantang and the Landing in Tigbauan during World War II.

Participants are reminded that only entries submitted in correct and complete specifications and format of the contest will be considered.

Contestants may use any medium of their choice for their poster which should be in a 15”x20” illustration board and must be described in one or two sentences.  The description must be written and printed on a ½ A4 bond paper and posted at the back of the entry together with the following information: Name of Contestant; Contact Number; School; and Division.

The contestants are also advised that the Philippine Flag should not be used as the background of the poster.  If used as part, it should be placed in a conspicuous place to show its importance to the artwork.

Each entry must be accompanied by these requirements: Endorsement from the Schools Division Superintendent or the Chief of the School Governance and Operations Division; a certification from the school principal that the contestant is enrolled in the current School Year (2022-2023); and scanned image of the student registration form or ID and Principal’s ID.

Criteria for judging are the following: Adherence to the Scope and Objective, 25%; Creativity and Originality, 30%; Composition, 25%; and Visual Impact,  20%.

Deadline for the submission of entries will be on  March 10, 2023 at 5:00 P.M..

PVB Iloilo Branch Head Elsa Peregil announced during the recent meeting of the Technical Working Committee for this year’s V-Day celebration that the winners of the contest will receive P10,000 for the champion, P5,000 for the first runner-up, and P3,000 for the second runner up.

Winners will get their cash awards during the commemoration of the 78th Victory Day Celebration on the Liberation of Panay, Romblon and Guimaras Islands on March 18 at Balantang Memorial Cemetery National Shrine, Barangay Quintin Salas in Jaro district.

Other contestants will also get certificates of appreciation and tokens.  (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
