MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)--Seventeen barangays in Gingoog City were affected by the low-pressure area and shear line, which caused heavy rains and placed the city under a yellow rain warning, January 11-12.
The city government and city disaster risk reduction management office ordered an early evacuation. A total of 1,661 families were moved to different evacuation centers and given basic food supplies right away through the community kitchen of the Local Government of Gingoog.
"Aduna kita'y 17 ka barangays nga naghimo og evacuation and pre-emptive evacuation. Aduna ta'y evacuation centers nga giidentify nga naa sila [evacuees] dadto," Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa said.
(There have been 17 barangay evacuations and pre-emptive evacuations. We have identified evacuation centers where they [evacuees] were placed)
Barangays affected include: 18A with 22 families, 20 with 183 families, 23 with 135 families, 24 with 34 families, 24A with 57 families, 25 with 35 families, Agay-ayan with 9 families, Anakan with 155 families, Lunao with 1 family, San Juan with 1 family, Binakalan with 25 families, Pangasihan with 302 families, and Odiongan with 264 families.
Cañosa stressed that the LGU is ready to respond to the needs of the families affected and that rescue teams are on standby 24/7. He also thanked the different government agencies that assisted in the pre-emptive evacuation: the PNP Mobile Force, 58th Infantry Battalion, 23rd Infantry Battalion, Department of Public Works and Highways, and Philippine Red Cross.
The local chief executive thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for giving the time to visit and check the situation of the city and shared that the president has given his commitment to helping the families that were affected by the calamity, assuring that those who had not yet received financial assistance will be given assistance based on the list of the Department of Social Welfare and Development that underwent the deduplication process alongside ongoing processing and additional payout in the coming days.
