The project, which is in line with the DA’s Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program, is under the National Livestock Program (NLP) and is jointly implemented by DA 2, the Local Government of Piat, and the Mabuhay Agri-Crop Multipurpose Cooperative.
In a ground-breaking ceremony held today, January 12, 2023, at Brgy. Warat, Piat, Engr. Blesita Tega, manager of SCRC, Regional Technical Director Rose Mary G. Aquino and Regional Technical Director Roberto Claro Busania, who represented Edillo, congratulated the cooperative as a recipient of the project, saying that this move will eventually fight the proliferation of the ASF through modern technologies in swine production.
The bio-secured housing facility will aid hog repopulation and encourage raisers to go back to business, while also continuing efforts to control the spread of the swine virus.
Dr. Bryan S. Sibayan, DA’s regional livestock focal person, said the facility can accommodate 300 heads of swine fattening that will undergo bio-safety protocol in order to produce quality meat products.
“This is what the government can provide in the meantime. Whatever shortage of the DA, you can fill in the gap through your bayanihan system of reciprocity,” Sibayan said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Loreto Pacay, President of the association, said they will look after the bio-secured facility aside from the counterpart which will be used to buy additional hogs. (BME/OTB/PIA Region 2 with Ferdinand N. Cortez and Mae Valerie Maguddayao of DA 2)
