DSHUD-10 boosts Camiguin's capacity on disaster response

CAMIGUIN (PIA)--In response to the provincial government's requests for additional training in ensuring the safety of people, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DSHUD)-10 conducted a seminar on Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) in Camiguin, January 10.

The CDRA is a six-step activity that helps local government units (LGUs) create community development plans through an understanding of the risks caused by natural hazards and climates.

Dadto ni siya nagama unya karon kay mas gi-enchance lang nila," Tanya Pinsoy of DSHUD said during the Alerto! radio program, January 10.

(Climate is cyclical. If you notice when it rains a lot, a storm returns in a couple of years. That's why we need to learn about it so that it doesn't happen again, because this [CDRA] was created as a result of Typhoon Sendong. This was made from that; they just recently enhanced it)

Fellow DSHUD technical officer Rambrandt Paclar added on the program that the CDRA is a tool for LGUs to assess and analyze the risks of potential disasters in the community. The CDRA is integrated into the LGU’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) to reduce casualties and wasted expenses in flood-prone or hazardous areas in the community.

(If the climate changes, it may generate hazards. That’s why the rain gets stronger and results in floods that may also result in landslides and other hazards or disasters that may kill people or ruin people’s properties)

DSHUD also continues to direct other local government units in the preparation of CLUP. (TAAG/PIA-10/Camiguin)
