LUBA, Abra (PIA) -- The local government unit of Luba recognized its barangays with outstanding implementation of health, nutrition, and environmental protection programs and policies under its annual “Healthy Barangay Awards"(HBA).
Awarded as the Healthiest Barangay for Year 2022 was Brgy. Poblacion. Barangays Sabnangan, Gayaman and Luzong were the first, second and third runners up, respectively.
“The HBA program is certainly one of the best practices of the LGU for the past 15 years because it involves and encourages the barangay LGUs to perform better each year,” Mayor Rosalina Bisacarra said.
The HBA also commends barangays with the best waste segregation facility, best solid waste facility and best barangay parks.
“We give them cash and incentives and also plaques of recognition. So every barangay is challenged to perform and become better,” the mayor added.
Biscarra explained that aside from policies on health, nutrition and environmental protection, the HBA program also assesses the performance of the BLGUs on local good governance.
“We visit the barangays regularly and we check if they have updated barangay bulletins which also support the good governance criteria of the HBA including the implementation of peace and order initiatives,” she said.
The Municipality of Luba is a 5th class municipality and it takes around two hours drive from the capital town of Bangued. The town has eight barangays namely Poblacion, Sabnanga, Gayaman, Luzong, Nagbukel-Tuquipa, Barit, Ampalioc and Lul-luno.
In 2014, the LGU was one of the 17 awardees nationwide of the "Galing Pook Awards”. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
