Traditional festivities mark Say- am Festival 2023  

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The province of Apayao will bring back the traditional festivities in its 28th Foundation Anniversary this 2023 after two years of toned down celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Provincial Tourism Officer Rebecca Mamba said that this year will have a full blast anniversary celebration   showcasing the rich culture and tradition of the people of Apayao. 

The festival will kick off on February 1 with the sports parade around the thoroughfares of Luna town, followed by the opening program and   dance showdown, presentation of the muses and the candidates for the Dayag ti Apayao or the Miss Apayao at the BGVJR Memorial Gymnasium in Poblacion, Luna.

On February 6 will be the soft opening of the Agri-Industrial and Tourism Fair which will serve as an avenue for the different local entrepreneurs in the municipalities to showcase and offer their products to residents and visitors. 
 
Other programs on Feb.  6 include the Jobs Fair, free legal assistance and a dog show. 

Painting competition will be held on February 7 to 8 while wood carving competition will be on February 9 to 10. 
 
On February 10 will be the float parade which features the products and other produce of the different municipalities. It will be followed by the Panaga-Angrad or the indigenous games.
 
Sports championship games will be held on February 11 with the yApayao Triathlon event and the coronation of the Best Muse.  There will also be a cookfest featuring the native dishes of Apayao with the use of indigenous ingredients, and fellowship lunch.
 
The night will be capped with the coronation of the Dayag ti Apayao or the Miss Apayao 2023.  

 
The celebration is themed, “Apayao @ 28: Celebrating Continuous Progress Vibrant Culture and Empowered People”. 
  
Last year, the Iapayaos thru the street dancers from Pudtol showed a  teaser of their festival thru the Cordillera Festival of Festival Show by the Department of Tourism where the street dancers of each province were showcased in Baguio City to show that the Cordillera region is now open for tourism.(JDP/RMC- PIA-CAR)
