Antique town mayor cites SGLG, EXCELL awards

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- Mayor Elmer C. Untaran of this capital town bared the accomplishments of the municipal government, including the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and the Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) awards.

Untaran said that the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Jose de Buenavista was recognized as a national passer for the 5th time to the SGLG award – the highest recognition conferred by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to LGUs.

As a recipient of the SGLG, the Municipality of San Jose de Buenavista had successfully met the performance indicators in all governance areas: financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and responsiveness, programs for sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace and order, environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture and arts, and youth development.

Alongside the award, LGU San Jose de Buenavista received the SGLG Incentive 

Fund Subsidy amounting to P5 million which is intended to fund local priority development initiatives, such as infrastructure projects.

The municipalities of Barbaza, Patnongon and Sebaste, and the Province of Antique were also acknowledged as 2022 SGLG passers.

San Jose de Buenavista was also among the winners of the 2022 Excellence in Local Governance Awards (EXCELL) of DILG Region 6, where it was selected as the 1st Runner-up in the Best Performing 1st-3rd Class Municipality category, Champion in Public Safety, Peace and Order, and Social Governance, 1st Runner-up in Administrative Governance, Economic Governance, and Local Legislation, and 2nd Runner-up in Environmental Governance.

Untaran noted that the awards conferred to San Jose de Buenavista reflect the commitment, hard work, and dedication poured into public service by and the collaborative efforts of municipal government employees, elected officials, community partners, and other stakeholders.

In a radio interview aired on January 25, the official also shared several developments in the capital town, such as the proportional distribution to schools of the P7.1 million real property tax collections, the full operation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the 

town center, sustained peace and order and cleanliness, improved traffic regulation, the operation of the Sanitary Landfill, the closure of the open and unregulated dumpsite and its conversion to a tree park, and the construction of the San Jose Business Park Annex Building among many others.

Untaran also expressed his gratitude to the public for their trust and confidence as he completes his term and seeks to accomplish more as mayor of Antique's capital municipality.

He also enjoined Antiqueños to have their Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) registered in accordance with Republic Act No. 11934 or the SIM Registration Act intended for a safer and more secure digital community. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
