NTC: SIM Registration in Carles open to other nearby areas

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The facilitated Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration in remote areas, which will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 27, is not only limited to residents of Carles, Iloilo but also open to nearby towns, according to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) 6.

“Indi lang ini eksklusibo para sa municipality of Carles. Tanan gina-imbitar ko gid, nearby municipalities or barangay sa sina nga munisipyo, pwede gid kamo magkadto kag magparehistro (This is not only exclusive to the municipality of Carles. I am inviting you all, the nearby municipalities or villages in the said municipality, you can come and register),” said Engr.  Leah dela Cruz Doromal, NTC 6 Officer-In-Charge.

She said all the public telecommunication entities (PTEs) – Globe, Smart and DITO will be present during this first facilitated SIM Registration in remote areas in Western Visayas to be held at Carles covered gym starting at 9 A.M.

Telco operators will be there to assist SIM users for an easy and convenient  registration.

Doromal advised mobile phone owners to take advantage of the opportunity and not to wait for the deadline on April 26 this year, and without the extension of another 120 days, if they fail to register, their SIM cards will be automatically deactivated.

She said registrants should bring their valid ID and SIM card attached to a mobile device when they go to the activity area.

Among the considerations cited by Doromal on why Carles was chosen as pilot location in the region are the limited number of cell sites in the town, its large population, and the presence of geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas and island villages.

Led by NTC and in close coordination with the local government unit of Carles, the conduct of facilitated registration in remote areas is in pursuant to Republic Act 11193 or the SIM Card Registration Act.

It was rolled out in 15 locations across the country from January 25 until January 27. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
