PNP to SAF 44 gallantry: Honor their memory and supreme sacrifice

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Eight years after their heroic sacrifice, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 commemorated the National Day of Remembrance for the Gallant Special Action Force (SAF) 44, January 25, held at Camp Martin Teofilo Delgado, here.

The activity, with the theme “Legacy of heroes: Inspiration of future generations,” was graced by Philippine National Police (PNP) Area Police Command Visayas commander Police Lieutenant General Patrick Villacorte.

Together with PRO6 regional director Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, he led the wreath laying at the PRO6 Heroes Wall to offer tribute to the fallen heroes.

Then, a 24-gun salute was offered by the SAF troopers present.

According to the speech of Philippine National Police chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., read by Villacorte, “We will continue to honor their memory and supreme sacrifice as we make sure that their legacy lives on through our actions and dedication to the service.

They will always be remembered as true heroes, who have given their lives for the service of Filipinos."

Azurin’s message reminded all that the heroism of SAF 44 will be forever etched in the books of our country’s history and will never be forgotten.

The Chief PNP also honored the families of the fallen heroes who were given tributes simultaneously by all PNP units nationwide.

“There may be no message, tribute, or ceremony that can ease or comfort your sorrow and pain. However, we join you through prayers, and may this simple commemoration cherish their legacy and fill your hearts with the country’s gratefulness that not one of them died in vain,” Azurin’s message added.

During the tribute program, Villacorte and Francisco gave the token and cash assistance to Jennifer Allaga, the bereaved wife of Police Officer 3 Robert Allaga, one of the SAF 44 troopers.

Present during the activity were the other members of the PRO6 command group,

regional and special staff, and the chief of the National Support Units 6.

By virtue of Proclamation No. 164, former President Rodrigo R. Duterte proclaimed every 25th of January as the “National Day of Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of the Forty-Four (44) Uniformed Personnel of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF)."
