Ilocos Norte police commemorates SAF44 on 7th year of Mamasapano clash

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO) observed the National Day of Remembrance for the 44 officers of the Special Action Force (SAF) of Philippine National Police (PNP) who died in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on Jan. 25, 2015.


A simple ceremony was led by INPPO Provincial Director PCol. Julius Suriben with Bangui Mayor Fidel Cimatu Jr. as guest of honor and speaker.


During the ceremony, Deputy Provincial Director for Administration PLtCol Randy Baoit honored the bravery of the 44 fallen SAF officers who died in the line of duty for peace and security in the country.


“As we recognize the heroic deeds of our SAF 44, we also celebrate the strength, bravery, and sacrifice of all the uniformed men and women in the line of duty. That despite the challenges and difficulties brought by the time, to include the danger of our job, we continue to thrive and innovate,” said Baoit.


In her message, Aleta Nacionales Tabulinar, sister of one of the fallen SAF- PO2 Omar Nacionales, reminisced his brother’s service and valor for the country as her inspiration in work and in life.


“Inspired by our heroes’ deeds, let us have the courage to work daily with the belief that we can make a difference in someone’s life. May their courage and dedication inspire us to do our best as we strive to live up to the standards of service that we represent,” said Tabulinar.


Dubbed as the biggest loss of government elite force in history, Bangui Mayor Cimatu told the police force to better their service for the Ilokanos, inspired by the SAF 44’s heroism, boldness, and loyalty in their duty for the nation.


The fallen SAF commandos were part of a special mission to capture Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Abdhir alias “Marwan”. While the operation was successful as Marwan was killed, but they had a bloody encounter with the terrorists while withdrawing from the area.


To this day, families of the SAF44 continue to cry for justice. (JCR/MJTAB, PIA Ilocos Norte)
