Camalaniugan, Cagayan (PIA) - Following the successful conduct of the one-day Onsite SIM Card Registration here, Mayor Isidro Cabaddu said he will open his office for subscribers who have difficulty registering their SIM cards.
During the onsite registration, the mayor noticed that most of those who came to register are senior citizens who considered themselves as non-techie.
"I will assign staff from my office to assist people to register to help the government achieve 100% registrants within the 180 days grace period," the mayor said.
Even after the Onsite SIM Card Registration, Mayor Cabaddu assures subscribers that his office will assist them in their registration.
National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) 2 Regional Director Nelson Daquioag said during the first few weeks of the implementation of the SIM Card Registration Act, there was a good result but during holidays, they observed that there was a low registration compliance.
He called their partner agencies and local government units to encourage subscribers, especially those who are still using keypad phones to take advantage of the presence of Private Telecommunication Entities during onsite registration and to assist them, especially in areas where the telecommunication signal is unstable.
The director commended the effort of Mayor Cabaddu and urged local chief executives to come up with initiatives to implement the act.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Provincial Officer Ronald Bariuan said they are hopeful that this act of the government will help eliminate text and online scam and strenghten cyber security in the country.
Cresencio Talosig, 70, one of the early birds during the registration, said he is not "techie" and he is not sure of the details he needs to input in the registration that is why he prefer to participate in the onsite registration.
"Awan met appukuk wenno anak ku nga mangisuru isu nga addanak dituy" (I don't have grand children to teach me that is why I am here), he said. (OTB/GVB/PIA-Cagayan)
