DAVAO CITY (PIA) - The Bible Reading Marathon, one of the highlights in the recently concluded National Bible Month was held at the Rizal Park in Davao City from January 23-24.
The activity is part of the National Bible Month which is celebrated in the country every January.
The two- day bible reading marathon was participated by volunteer readers from the protestant evangelical churches, Archdiocese of Davao, youth, academe, Task Force Davao, Davao City Police Office, government offices, and other faith-based organizations.
“The Bible Reading Marathon was a very successful po! Considering we had little time to put it up and few volunteers and workers attending to this activity. Praise God that after three years we were able to read again the Bible at Rizal Park with participants from various sources of society, says National Bible Month co-convenor in Davao City Pastor Reuland Badoy.
The National Bible Month traces its roots to Presidential Proclamation 2242 signed in 1982 which declared the First Sunday of Advent and the last week of November as the National Bible Day and National Bible Week respectively. In 1986 President Corazon Aquino moved the National Bible Day to January.
Republic Act 11163 authored by Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao and signed by President Duterte in 2018 institutionalized the National Bible Day.
President Rodrigo Duterte would make it a month-long celebration under Proclamation 124 in 2017. (PIA/RG Alama)
