Remote SIM card registration serves 991 users in Carles town

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Nine hundred ninety one Subscriber Indentity Module (SIM) users have registered their mobile number, Jan. 27, at the Covered Gym in the municipality of Carles, Iloilo as part of the three-day nationwide roll out of SIM Registration in remote areas.

Carles, Iloilo mayor Siegfredo Betita encourages everyone to avail of other facilitated SIM registration their respective areas.

The total number is composed of 795 Smart SIM users, 160 Globe SIM users and 36 DITO SIM card users.

Carles mayor Siegfredo Betita said that the SIM card registration is a very commendable exercise of the government against scammers and those spreading misinformation. 

The municipality of Carles was chosen as one of the 15 prioritized areas to conduct the facilitated SIM card registration in remote areas in the country pursuant to Republic Act 11934, also known as the SIM Card Registration Act,

Betita said the SIM registration will deter perpetrators in spreading spams or 

scams, and could also even dissuade people who plan to spread false messages or fake news as authorities could easily identify them.

Personnel from Smart Communications, Inc., Globe Telecom, Inc. and DITO Telecommunity Corp. were present during the event to assist their respective clients and subscribers with their SIM registration.

During the event, Betita also encouraged telecommunications companies to put up cell sites that will cover the 18 island barangays of Carles to improve connectivity as there are dead spots in some of their areas. (AAL/PIA6/EJB)
