KAUSWAGAN, Lanao del Norte (PIA)--The local government unit (LGU) here works overtime to accelerate the construction of the international convention center at Barangay Tacub that will be the venue for the 6th Organic Asia Congress (OAC) in June.
The 5-hectare site owned by the LGU will feature two clamshell-type venues, a prefabricated kitchen with cafeteria that will continuously serve food and drinks, a business center with an admin building and accommodations—designed for future use, teepee-type dormitory (coconut hub area), and a façade that will awe the visitors.
Mayor Rommel Arnado said that the rainy season has been a challenge for the construction work. However, he said they are confident they will finish the venue by mid-May. He shared that solar lamps were installed on the site so that the construction workers could work even at night.
The mayor also said that the center will become an income-generating facility for the municipality.
"Looking beyond, there will be a lot of money that will be generated. It's a beautiful convention; it can accommodate thousands of people, even concerts. We will have that facility in northern Mindanao," he said.
The 6th OAC is a prominent international event in the field of organic agriculture. It will also feature five different big events. These are the 6th Organic Asia Congress, the Organic Youth Forum, the 9th Asian Local Government for Organic Agriculture Summit, the 4th Global Alliance of Organic Districts, and Women in Organic Agriculture in Asia.
