DAR gives livelihood to typhoon-stricken farmers ass'n

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) –- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Negros Occidental 1 gave out P61,690 worth of poultry livelihood to Typhoon Odette-affected members of the Varela, Gustilo, Margarita, Consing (VAGUMACO) Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association.

The VAGUMACO ARBA, with a total of 60 members who are currently working at 60 hectares of sugarcane and rice lands, got 100 heads of ready-to-lay chickens for the egg-layering venture in Barangay Caduha-an  in Cadiz City.

This livelihood support project is part of the Typhoon Odette assistance to affected agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBOs) in northern Negros Occidental.

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer (MARPO) Jay-R Butnande during the delivery of the chickens told beneficiaries that such is under the Program Beneficiaries Development Division’s (PBDD) Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support (CRFPS) Section.

“Our objective is to enhance and sustain the agricultural productivity of agrarian communities as an adaptation measure toward resiliency,” Butnande said.

Meanwhile, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) II – OIC Teresita R. Mabunay said the implementation of the project is geared towards the goal of building resiliency for agrarian communities in the province.

CRFPS provides priority support for highly vulnerable areas or rehabilitation for disaster-affected agrarian reform areas and it is pursued through the provision of support to develop alternate livelihoods or rehabilitation of the existing livelihood that were affected by the impacts of climate change.
