PH govt distributes e-titles to almost 17K farmers

QUEZON CITY (PIA) – A total of 16,888 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) nationwide had already received their individual electronic land titles (e-tiles) nationwide under the Department of Agrarian Reform’s (DAR) Support to Parcelization of Lands for Individual Titling or Project SPLIT.

The World Bank-funded Project SPLIT was implemented to handle the processing and subdividing of previously distributed collective certificates of land ownership award (CCLOAs), and turning them into individual land titles, distributed to qualified ARBs.

The project covers the improvement of land tenure security and the stability of property rights of ARBs nationwide covering more than a million hectares of land. It intends to benefit local farmers to improve land productivity and better their income. It is also designed to support local livelihood diversification, and encourage public investment, leading to an improved rural economy.

DAR Assistant Secretary for Field Operations Office and concurrent SPLIT national director Engr. Joey Sumatra revealed that DAR already validated 88% or 522,688 hectares out of the 591,572 hectares funded for the project.

DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III said, “they implement a very rigid process in subdividing collective CLOAs for each individual ARBs”. He added that another 38,196 hectares of farmlands are already in the process of e-title generation which is expected to be distributed within the year.

Estrella noted that the process might be long but he makes sure that DAR is steadily making progress in Project Split. (MVV, PIA-CPSD)
