DSWD distributes assistance to San Carlos beneficiaries

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) –- More than 900 beneficiaries got Cash-for-Work and Emergency Shelter Assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in separate distribution activities in San Carlos City.

At least 395 fisherfolk and farmer beneficiaries received their Cash-for-Work salaries as part of the DSWD’s Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM) Program.

These beneficiaries are members of the different fisherfolk and farmers associations of barangays San Juan, Ermita, Bagonbon, Punao, Rizal, Nataban, Palampas, Guadalupe, and Buluangan who received P3,950.00 each for 10 days of work in 2022.

DSWD Project Development Officer II David Patilla Jr. said the cash-for-work was related to environmental protection such as tree planting for the farmers and coastal cleaning and mangrove planting for the fishermen.

Meanwhile, DSWD Project Development Officer III Renante Lasay said a total of P5.67-million worth of Emergency Shelter Assistance were distributed to 567 beneficiaries in the city affected by Typhoon Odette. Each identified household received P10,000.

Asulpecio Nuevo, 53 years old from Sitio Lamesa, Brgy. Buluangan, one of the recipients said the money he received will be used for the continuous repair of their damaged house.

Nuevo thanked the city government of San Carlos and the DSWD for the assistance.
