LUBA, Abra (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) Cordillera led the distribution of 102 heads of piglets to 34 farmers of barangay Lul-luno, in this town.

Each of the farmer-beneficiaries received three heads of upgraded weaners and a sack of booster feeds.

The farmers are members of Upper Lul-luno Farmers Association and listed as beneficiaries of the Sustainable Inclusive Peace and Transformation (SIPAT) program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU).

Abra Agriculture Program Coordinating Office -Abra Head Dr. Rosemarie Tesoro encouraged the beneficiaries to breed the pigs so that they can soon  raise income thru swine raising.

“This distribution is one of the programs of our government that will boost the livelihood  in far flung barangays and I hope that with this support, you’ll be able to breed pigs for the availability of meat supplies in your barangay,” Tesoro said.

She explained that  farmers  can redeem  their  expenses  in raising the three animals  with a single pig while the other two pigs  will be their profit.

In an interview with Upper Lul-luno Farmers Association  president Mariano Gayyed, he thanked the government for the livelihood support.

“This is our opportunity to raise pigs in our barangay with the current threat of African Swine Fever in some municipalities of Abra. I will make sure to guide my fellow farmers on the proper raising of the piglets,” he said.

Transporting the piglets and feeds to Luba was a challenge taking more than three hours for the delivery trucks to travel the 75 kilometers distance from the capital town of Bangued to the remote village of Lul-luno. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
