Capiz farmers receive P35-M agri-machinery

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- Twenty units of rice combine harvesters were given by the Philippine Center for Post-Harvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) to 20 eligible farmers' cooperatives and associations from Roxas City and 12 towns in Capiz during a turnover ceremony, Feb. 9, at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, here.

The P35-million worth of farm machinery is in line with the Department of Agriculture's Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Component which pushes forth agricultural mechanization to empower rice farmers.

"Our agricultural farming is geared towards mechanization as we follow develop and progressive countries which have adapted the modern farming technology towards improved production," said Capiz Gov. Fredenil Castro during the turnover ceremony.

He added that that the farm machinery is a manifestation that the government is attending into their needs as they are the modern day heroes of the country.

For his part, PhilMech interim director for operations Joffry Datur said that the program has an annual budget of P5-billion allocated for farm mechanization for the period of six years or from 2019 to 2025.

The turn-over ceremony was led by PhilMech in partnership with DA Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) VI, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) headed by provincial agriculturist Sylvia V. dela Cruz, and the municipal LGUs.

RCEF beneficiaries are assisted with farm machinery and equipment thru PhilMech, certified seeds of inbred rice varieties from PhilRice, expanded rice credit assistance thru LandBank of the Philippines and Development Bank of the Philippines, and training/extension programs thu the Agricultural Training Institute.
