LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY (PIA5/Albay)---The Local Government Unit of Camalig through the Municipal Tourism and Cultural Heritage Office (MTCHO) opened the month-long ’’ Pagkamoot sa Arte, Kultura, Asin Ginikanan’’ art exhibit to the public at Artisan Village, Sumlang Lake, Brgy. Sumlang, Camalig, Albay on Feb. 10 as part of National Arts Month celebration.
The activity was launched in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and Camalig Artists Guild.
‘’[This is] a pilot activity under the ‘Gikan Asin Gayon’ Camalig Arts Festival 2023 which aims to showcase the creativity of the town’s homegrown artists and revitalize Camalig’s culture and arts after being toned down due to the impacts of pandemic,’’ Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo said.
‘’The exhibit also complements LGU- Camalig’s developmental thrust toward the promotion of its historical and cultural heritage, as well as extending to the future generations of Camalignon ideals and aspirations through various forms of media,’’ Mayor Baldo said.

‘’The 19-day exhibit features the works of Paulo Samson, Jorge Samson, Rudy Nasol, Pat Noveno, Vic Medalla, Bert ‘’Sili King’’ Gonzales, Ramci Diane Mitra, Albert Romero, Rowell Nicerio, and even Municipal Councilor, Hon. Noel Muñoz,’’ Mayor Baldo said.
According to Camalig Artists Guild Coordinator, Paulo Samson it also aims to promote the works, crafts, and pinangat-making in the town of Camalig.
‘’There are paintings, sculptures [in the exhibit] and on the neighboring cottage there’s the artisan village built by Hon. Felipe Noe Napa Jr.,’’ Samson said.
He said that the showcased artworks are for sale, ranging from P1,000 to 30,000 pesos.
He also disclosed that currently, there is a daily demonstration of ‘pag-abul’ or abaca weaving until the last day of the exhibit.

Samson said that another activity will be held at the end of the month where they will hold the pinangat -making activity with the students as their target participants.
He stressed that they are specifically targetting the e younger groups from Camalig to guarantee the continuity and preservation of the traditional pinangat making and said that the activity is a ‘strategic move’ to share the arts of Camalig artists which serves as a proof of their talents.
‘’It will also market and expose the arts and [local] products of camalig and its culinary pride which is the pinangat,’’ Samson added.
‘’We want to inspire and provide awareness to young artists about culture and arts,’’ Camalig Artist Jorge Samson, brother of Paulo Samson said.
Jorge also left a message to the young artists that are dreaming to be successful in their craft.
‘’Just continue doing your passion if that makes you happy, just practice everyday to improve your skills,’’ Jorge said. (PIA5/Albay)
