25 former rebels get P250K

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) –- Each of the 25 former rebels (FRs) received P10,000 cash assistance as part of the Assistance to Individual in Crisis Situation (AICS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

In a distribution rite in Himamaylan City, these FRs got the cash assistance as capital in starting a small business to sustain their daily needs while their Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) benefits are being processed.

Himamaylan City mayor Rogelio Raymund I. Tongson expressed his gratitude to the former rebels for giving the government a chance to regain their trust and confidence.

Tongson assured the FRs that the local government of Himamaylan, the Philippine Army and the City Social Welfare and Development Office will work together to support those who decided to return to the folds of law, to live peacefully and be reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Orlando D. Edralin said that the return of the FRs to the government folds is a clear manifestation that Himamaylan City is one with the Brigade and 94th Infantry Battalion in ending the local communist armed conflict (ELCAC).

“Through the collaboration of the different agencies, and help from the villagers who are fed up with the lies and propaganda of CPP-NPA, our war against insurgency will soon come to its final chapters.  I challenge the FRs, to help us convince your former comrades to lay down their arms and submit themselves to the folds of law, and I will make sure that they shall receive the same benefits and programs given to you by the government,” Edralin added.
