SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Region 1 recognized nine municipalities in La Union which made it in the 2022 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI).
The CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.
According to the CMCI website, “local competitiveness is how a city or municipality knows its resources and how it uses these to improve its standard of living.”
Local government units (LGUs) were ranked based on CMCI’s five pillars: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resilience and innovation.
During the Regional Awarding Ceremony, the Department of Trade and Industry-Region 1 recognizes some local government units of La Union who stand out in the 2022 cities and municipalities competitiveness index (CMCI) summit.
The LGUs in La Union received a total of 15 awards from various categories during the awarding ceremony held at the J&V Hotel Resort in this city on Wednesday.
San Fernando City ranked 11th among the component cities, while the municipality of Pugo ranked 11th as Overall Most Competitive for 5th to 6th Class Municipalities.
On the Economic Dynamism Pillar, San Fernando City placed 19th under the Component Cities.
For the Infrastructure Pillar, Pugo town was awarded Top 6 under the 5th to 6th Class Municipalities Category.
The local government of Sto. Tomas ranked 1st on the Resiliency Pillar under the 3rd to 4th Class Municipalities Category while the municipality of Rosario was top 12 on the same pillar under the 1st to 2nd Class Municipalities Category.
The City Government of San Fernando spearheaded by City Mayor Hermenegildo Gualberto receives conferment from the Department of Trade and Industry-Region 1 during its Regional Awarding Ceremony for bringing various awards in the 2022 CMCI summit.
Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David expressed her gratitude for the province’s recognition.
“Sunod-sunod po ang naging pagkilala ng iba’t ibang ahensya sa La Union at sa mga component local government units natin dahil sa ating mga initiatives, mga programa at serbisyo na naglalayong makatulong sa ating mga kababayan at sa ikaaangat ng ating ekonomiya,” said David.
The CMCI, which is a program of the DTI through the Competitiveness Bureau, also envisions sharing best practices across the different regions allowing cities and municipalities to benchmark their performance against local and global standards. (JCR/AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
