NTC: Avoid deactivation, register your SIM now

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) 6 is urging Negrenses to have their Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards registered to avoid deactivation.

NTC 6 Legal Officer Deo Virgil Tan said Republic Act 11934 mandates the public to register their SIM cards before the deadline set on April 26, 2023.

He said an individual could register as many active SIM cards he or she uses.

After the deadline, all unregistered SIMs will be deactivated unless the NTC extends the registration again for another 120 days.

One can register the SIM of any Telecommunications Company through the platform but warned that it should be verified first as scammers take advantage of the mass registration to dupe unsuspecting persons, he noted.

The NTC will soon conduct a facilitated SIM registration in coordination with the Local Government Units and the Telcos in Negros Occ. in March.

The first three LGUs to be visited are the municipalities of Don Salvador Benedicto, Toboso, and Manapla. The next are the city of Sipalay and the towns of San Enrique and Binalbagan.

The dates will be announced as soon as it is finalized, he added, noting that these

LGUs were chosen according to their geographic location and population, among others.

The facilitated SIM registration will prioritize the senior citizens and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) who are not knowledgeable on the technology.

Tan revealed that as of February this year, more than 32 million SIMs have already been registered out of the 100 million target across the country.

The public may also check the NTC website at ntc.gov.ph to know more about the SIM registration program and the other programs of the Commission. (AAL/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental    NTC6 Photos)
