DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Feb. 17 (PIA) -- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) here together with Association of Negros Oriental Public Information Officers (ANOPIO) will hold an information campaign on Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Act or R.A. 11934 on Feb. 23 in Dumaguete City.
Officials from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), and the telecommunications companies will brief the public information officers and the media on the importance and relevance of SIM Card Registration.
The country's SIM Card Registration Act directs the public to register their SIM cards with their respective telecommunications network providers that seeks to eliminate digital scam or curbing mobile phone-aided criminal activities as all SIMs can soon be tracked.
The SIM card registration will run until April 26, 2023.
The telcos Smart and Globe will set up facilitated SIM registration booths at the lobby of the Provincial Convention Center on Feb. 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to assist subscribers in the registration.
Individuals around Capitol Area who are interested to avail of the SIM card registration are advised to also bring a government-issued identification card.
Under the law, registering a SIM card with false or fictitious information or using fictitious identities will be subject to a penalty of imprisonment of 6 months to 2 years and a fine of P100,000 to P300,000 while spoofing will be subject to a six-year jail time or/and a fine of P200.
