VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — The town of Caoayan clinched victory at the Street Dance Showdown Competition of the 2023 Kannawidan Festival in this province.
Leaving the audience a bit tearful, students from Puro National High School performed a heartwarming story of one of its Abel Iloco weavers, the inspiring resilience and love of a mother.
One of the performers, Jazmien Quiocho could not contain her joy after being announced the champion.
She said, “I am super happy that we are the champions again. This is such a great opportunity for us to showcase our talents in dancing. All our sacrifices are definitely worth it.”

Mr. Christian A. Giron, the school principal, said that this is a sweet success after the difficulties they faced.
“Challenge talaga itong pagkapanalo ng mga bata, after two years na walang Street Dance Competition, naiuwi ulit ang kampeonato. Sobrang saya ng buong isla ng Puro, Caoayan,” said the principal.

He also expressed his gratitude to Mayor Germelina Goulart, their barangay captain and other officials for supporting the performance.
Mayor Goulart, Vice Mayor Juan Paolo Ancheta, and other officials surprised the audience as they directly participated in flaunting attires made from the Abel Iloco of the municipality.
The town bested some 11 municipalities and cities which showed equally outstanding performances during the competition held at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium in Bantay, recently.
With a grand prize of P500,000, they will be representing Ilocos Sur in the upcoming Aliwan Festival, an annual event that gathers the different cultural festivals in the country.
Moreover, Salcedo took home P300,000 as the second placer and Narvacan as the third placer won P200,000.
